Our History
MCV Salon–established in 2001 by Mary and Bill Volker–began with the intent of creating a fun, professional, and superior salon environment focused on guest experience.
Mary started in the beauty industry with an apprenticeship in Mequon, Wisconsin at Erik of Norway Salon in 1973. During her years at Erik of Norway, she joined the Third Coast Design Team, traveling around the country to perform platform work and train hair stylists. Mary’s skills and talents have been recognized through numerous national hair cutting and styling awards.
Erik Knudsen, her mentor, later expanded his brand and opened the Aveda Institute Chicago. Inspired by the potential of the beauty industry and wanting to fill a need within the Sun Prairie community, Mary opened MCV Salon in 2001. Her objective was to create an inviting Aveda Concept Salon with a focus on personalized service backed by a well-educated, caring team. MCV Salon originally opened in a small one-room salon located at Main and Bird Street. Quickly becoming a local favorite, the salon outgrew the space. In 2004, MCV Salon relocated to their current space in the Cannery Square building, adjacent to Cannery Square Park in beautiful downtown Sun Prairie.
The expansion of MCV Salon inspired their first receptionist–Mary’s stepdaughter, Lindsey–to expand her own horizons and pursue a career in the beauty industry. While working at the salon through high school, Lindsey gained an interest and appreciation of the business. In 2007, she completed her Cosmetology and Cosmetology Educator training at the Aveda Institute Chicago. After spending years in Chicago teaching and serving as the Director of Education, her heart brought her back to Wisconsin. She began as a stylist at MCV Salon in 2015 where she enjoys cutting, styling, and coloring hair in addition to offering spa services while connecting with those in the community.
With Mary’s retirement in 2018, Lindsey and her husband, Carmelo, purchased MCV Salon with the intent of upholding, nurturing, and continuing to grow the family business. Their goal is to keep Mary’s successful vision–a fun, professional, and caring salon with a team environment–alive for years to come. Lindsey, Carmelo, and the MCV Salon team invite you to visit for a uplifting, personalized experience.
