Our History

MCV Salon was established in 2001 by Mary and Bill Volker. Mary started in the beauty industry as an apprentice at Erik of Norway in 1973. During her years at Erik of Norway Salon Milwaukee she joined the Third Coast Design Team and traveled around the country doing platform work and training hairdressers. Mary has won numerous national hair cutting and styling awards. Erik, her mentor, later expanded his brand and opened the Aveda Institute Chicago. Mary opened MCV Salon in 2001 with the goal to create an Aveda Concept Salon with a fun, professional and caring work environment.

MCV Salon was originally a small, one room salon, located at Main and Bird Street. It quickly became a community favorite and outgrew that space. In 2004 the Cannery Square building and park were renovated. The salon took occupancy in the beautiful new space in downtown Sun Prairie.

As MCV Salon grew so did their first receptionist, Mary’s step-daughter, Lindsey. While working at the salon through high school she gained interest in the beauty industry. In 2007 she completed her Cosmetology and Cosmetology Educator training at the Aveda Institute Chicago. After spending years in Chicago teaching and serving as the Director Of Education her heart brought her back home. She started as stylist at MCV Salon in 2015.

At the time of Mary’s retirement, Lindsey and her husband Carmelo purchased the family business. Their goal is to keep the professional, fun, caring, team environment, that Mary worked so hard to create, alive for years to come.
